New Petri Dish Imager Supports Development of AI-Based Analysis Modules

A new imager for digitizing Petri dishes is increasingly being used in laboratories involved in developing new solutions for automated sample digitization. The device captures Petri dishes in single-dish mode and creates high-resolution images.

The imager, named LabImager PR mini, is used, among other things, for digitizing Legionella samples. The captured Petri dishes are recorded and documented in the laboratory. The resulting image data simultaneously serves as a training basis for new AI-based analysis methods. More and more laboratories are participating in this development work and using the imager for the structured recording of their samples.

The data obtained in this way is incorporated into the further development of intelligent analysis models. The data collection is part of an ongoing product development for a future fully automated sample digitization system for Legionella analysis in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance. The goal is to fully automate the recording, analysis, and classification and sorting of microbiological samples according to their results.
